Business Information

The Solomon Islands is a developing country with an emerging private sector. Comprising of almost 900 different islands, the Solomon Islands continues to be supported by significant international aid. The Solomon Islands economy has traditionally had sector strengths in forestry, fishery and agriculture. Since the arrival of the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands (RAMSI) and a restoration of international confidence in the Solomon Islands, there has also been ongoing growth in the mining and tourism sectors. The Solomon Islands continues to have a vibrant small business community, which is mostly situated around cities like Honiara.

The Solomon Islands economy is still characterized by a number of monopolies, particularly in the utilities, infrastructure and transport sectors, which has obvious implications for price and service competitiveness in these sectors. A lack of competition in these sectors has obvious flow-on impacts for other businesses in the Solomon Islands as well.

The Chamber of Commerce is always ready to assist you to access business information, contacts and advice that may be required to understand business and investment in the Solomon Islands, whether you are starting or growing your business.

A wealth of business information can also be obtained via the government business portal at the Ministry of Commerce and the Foreign Investment Division.
