Chamber Stakeholders

Our People: The Members of the Chamber of Commerce are its first and primary stakeholders. As a membership driven organization, our people’s views are important and in fact form the basis for the organization. Our primary ambition is to represent their needs and to advocate on their behalf on issues that are important to them. We understand that members join not because of the need for returns on their own businesses, but because they believe in the importance of working together for the benefit of the economy within which we do business and the society within which we live in.

Solomon Islands Government: The Solomon Islands Government is one of the major partners of the Chamber of Commerce, particularly in terms of policy development that relates to business, economy, trade and so on. As the private sector arm of development, the Chamber of Commerce understand the role it plays in assisting government understand issues related to commerce and industrial growth and sustainability in the Solomon Islands. The primary interface between the private sector and the Government is achieved through the Prime Minister’s Office, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade and the Ministry of Planning and Development.

World Bank and Asian Development Bank: The World Bank and Asian Development Bank become key partners in national development in the Solomon Islands, and with their specific focus of economic, financial and now infrastructural development in the country, there is reliance on the contribution they make to the future of local government and governance. As these organizations show increased appreciation for the view of the private sector and the Chamber of Commerce and its relevance in policy development, the partnership between the Chamber of Commerce, the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank is becoming more and more apparently important.

European Commission: The European Commission has become an important partner in private sector development in the Solomon Islands, with its Non-State Actors (NSA) Grant, awarded to a number of civil society and private sector organization’s including the Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber of Commerce is grateful to the support of the European Commission for its assistance in the grant, which is expected to strengthen the capacity of the organization and allow become an effectively functioning National Private Sector Organization.
